23 Celebrity Transformations
One of the most common New Year’s resolutions is to lose weight and get fit but as we all know, it is easier said than done. In January, gyms are packed with people queuing for the bench press, but by the end of the quarter, people tend to fall back to their bad habits and stop showing up for workouts.
As a celebrity, it is TOUGH! The public eye is often harsh and critical. Here’s a list of celebrities who each lost significant amount of weight and transformed their bodies, either by choosing healthy foods, cutting calories or exercising regularly. Some even chose surgery to assist in their weight loss. May their results inspire you to stay on track and reach your goals this year!
1. Queen Latifah
Queen Latifah landed her first record deal in 1989; she released her debut album “All Hail the Queen” shortly thereafter. Quickly proving her talents in front of the microphone and the cameras, Queen landed leading roles. She is well known to embrace her curvy figure and empower women of all shapes and size, Queen has decided to set a better example for her fans by shedding some weight. She soon turned heads on the Red Carpet after dropping 30 pounds.
2. Kim Kardashian
No list would be complete without a Kardashian. Kim Kardashain is a fashion icon and one of the most followed people on social media. In 2007, she rose to fame along with her family; Kim was at her thinnest weighing at 120 pounds. During her pregnancy of her second child in 2015, Kim packed on the pounds and tipped the scale at a shocking 200 pounds, making her almost unrecognizable. Since giving birth to her son, she’s been shedding the baby weight like crazy and is now back to 130 pounds.
3. Raven Symone
At just 4, Raven launched into acting on The Cosby Show. She later caught the eye of the Disney Channel in 2003; Raven was given her own series “That’s So Raven” and became a teen idol while she continued to pursue her music career. Raven faced her weight issues, and lost 70 pounds.
4. Christian Bale
Cast at only 13 in Steven Spielberg’s Empire of the Sun, Christian has spent the last decades playing everything from psychopathic murder to the caped hero. As a result of his dedication to his characters, he has put his body though some pretty drastic changes. Christian bulked up his weight to 190 pounds in 2002 for Reign of Fire, only to drop to 70 pounds for his role in 2004 The Machinist. 5. Oprah Winfrey
Let’s just call her “Queen of All Media” – one of the biggest success stories in American today, Oprah Winfrey defies the odds. Oprah was her largest in the early 1900’s when she weighed 237 pounds. In the early 2000’s, she made the headlines and dropped to 160 pounds.
6. Tyra Banks
Paving the way as the first African American woman on the cover of GQ, Tyra Banks started her modeling career when she was 15. Eventually her talents took a shine to television and Tyra landed her own daytime talk show. Tyra become a longtime host of America’s Next Top Model from 2003 to 2015. Over the years her weight fluctuated, the former supermodel admits that managing her weight is an ongoing battle.
7. Seth Rogan
Launching his career in stand-up comedy as a teen, Seth caught his first major break in Freaks and Geeks in the late 1990’s when he became known as the funny, chubby guy. In addition to his talents as a writer and filmmaker, Seth is now known as one of the funniest men in Hollywood. Averaging around 220 pounds, Seth went on a strict diet whilst being the main character in The Green Hornet and dropped to 190 pounds in a short 2 months.
8. Carrie Fisher
After wrapping up the original Star Wars trilogy in 1983, the late Carrie Fisher struggled with her weight, bipolar disorder and drug addiction throughout much of her life. By the time she was invited to reprise her role in The Force Awakens, Carrie was ready to drop the weight and she lost over 40 pounds! Through much encouragement from the Star Wars crew, she made a comeback in the biggest file of the year.
9. Adam Richman
With the series running from 2008 t0 2012, called Man Vs Food, Richman naturally gained a considerable amount of weight and suffered from depression. Officially retiring from competitive eating in 2012 to focus on his health, Adam managed to lose all the weight he gained on Man Vs Food. On top of that he shredded another 10 pounds! The food expert and soccer enthusiast adopted the same training regimen and vegan diet as professional soccer players and lost 70 pounds in only 10 months. (Wowzer!)
10. 50 Cent
50 Cent a.k.a. Street King Immortal. Growing up in Queens, he has seen his fair share of violence and drugs. Back in 2003, he gave up on the drug-dealing life and turned to music, releasing his debut album Get Rich or Die Trying and hasn’t looked back since. In 2010, the Grammy Award winning artist weighed 214 pounds, when he was casted as Deon (star football player suffering from a deadly disease) in the film “Things Fall Apart” he spent nine weeks dedicated to running 3 hours a day and drinking a liquid diet and reached his goal weight of 160 pounds. (That’s some real dedication right there!)
11. Dr. Dre
Speaking of rap industry entrepreneurs …Dr. Dre is best known as the CEO and founder of Aftermath Entertainment and Beats Electronics. He spent much of the early 2000s in the recording studio and was 270 pounds before he decided to make a change. Adopting a healthier lifestyle and putting time in at the gym daily, he has become a gym-junkie and now is in the best shape.
12. Christina Aguilera
From the Mickey Mouse Club to the Princess of Pop, Christina has had an incredible music career. Over the years, she has been through some dramatic weight fluctuations due to giving birth. After her second child, she was around 200 pounds, Christina decided to take time off and made a huge wave when she dropped the weight and reclaim her sex appeal.
13. Aretha Franklin
This power house also dubbed as “The Queen of Soul”, has been the first female to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. With over 100 songs reaching the top of the Billboard charts, it should come as no surprise that fans were concerned about the diva’s health as she continued to get noticeably larger, with her weight climbing to 300 pounds. Eventually diagnoses with diabetes and left with no choice but to make some drastic changes, Franklin has dropped 85 pounds and is back to her “natural size” thanks to avoiding fried and processed foods. While she agrees that there is plenty of work left to do in terms of her health, Aretha’s fans are thrilled that she is finally looking and feeling better.
14. John Goodman
Tired of the “large guy” stereotype, John decided to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Being no stranger to dieting, having lost 60-70 pounds early on in his career, John’s decided to take his weight loss more seriously. He has now taken a slower pace and has lost 100 pounds and thankfully he is continuing his healthier lifestyle.
15. Chris Pratt
Voted as the second most Sexiest Men Alive in the People’s Magazine in 2014, Chris Pratt is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. In 2011, he tried for the role of Scott Hatteberg in Moneyball but was rejected because of his weight (280 pounds), he was determined to win the role and headed straight to gym. Having lost 30 pounds, the self-proclaimed couch potato managed to win the casting director over and was given the part. Chris has then gone on to body building and put on a healthy 20 pounds of weight.
16. Ricky Gervais
Things didn’t exactly work out for Ricky in 1980s when he set out to be a pop star, luckily for him; Ricky found the realm of comedy. In 2011, he was invited to host the Golden Globes, he was tired of being called a “fat, lazy and out of shape slob”, Ricky decided with his girlfriend that they would lose weight. Ricky has lost over 40 pounds and has shed his “overweight slob” image.
17. Alec Baldwin
The oldest and most famous of Hollywood’s four Baldwin brothers, Alec began his acting career on Knots Landing in 1984 before a successful stint on Broadway. Alec has appeared in dozens of critically acclaimed hits while starring in comedy 30 Rock and becoming a staple in Saturday Night live. In 2011, during one of his regular check-up, he learned that we was predisposed to diabetes and immediately took his doctors’ advice to make a change. Alec gave up sugar completely and enrolled in Pilates and spin class; he was able to drop 40 pounds and regained control of his health.
18. Mariah Carey
Everyone loves the singer, songwriter, record producer and actress Maria Carey. In 2011, Maria welcomed motherhood with two precious babies and gained 70 pounds of baby weight that made her almost unrecognizable. Luckily, within a few months of giving birth, she managed to drop 45 pounds and has continued to shed the rest through diet and exercise.
19. Jordin Sparks
Making her debut in the sixth season of Idol at just 17 years old, Jordin become the youngest winner of the show’s history. Familiar with Simon Cowell’s harsh criticism, Jordin remains confident in her looks but decided that she needed to lose weight. By 2015, the singer confirmed that she had lost 50 pounds thanks to clean eating and working with a personal trainer 5 days a week.
20. Kelly Osbourne
Kelly is the daughter of the iconic rockstar Ozzy Osbourne – Godfather of Heavy Metal. The Osbourne’s were famous for the outrageous reality show. Kelly received a lot of unwanted attention because of her weight. Everything changed in 2009, when she was added to the roster of Dancing with the Stars. Taking third place in the competition, Kelly managed a different kind of victory; she had dropped a whopping 50 pounds over the course of the show.
21. Jennifer Hudson
Getting her first taste of real fame in 2006, Jennifer made her film debut in Dreamgirls and was rewarded with taking home an Academy Award and Golden Globe for her performance. Faced with a tragedy in 2008, where her family died in a shooting, Jennifer stepped out of the limelight for 3 months and returned with a new perspective on her life and career. She has since then became a spokesperson for Weight Watchers in 2010, and has dropped an incredible 80 pounds over the years.
22. Jonah Hill
Spending much of his career in the spotlight as the klutzy chubby kid, Jonah Hill made his film debut in 2004. He got his breakthrough in his performance in Superbad and has since become a staple in the industry thanks to comedies. In 2011, he worked with Brad Pitt in Moneyball , Pitt encouraged the actor to shed some weight for the upcoming 21 Jump Street. The 250 pound Jonah took his advice and started to count calories and work out. Shortly after Jonah dropped 50 pounds and shocked the world when he took to the Red Carpet.
23. Janet Jackson
Is one of the most awarded and influential artist of our time, she holds the record for the most consecutive top 10 hits on Billdboard Hot 100. Janet disappeared from the spotlight briefly in 2000, and reemerged in 2007 looking much larger. Known for never weighing herself and embarrassed by the photos, the pop diva made some changes to her lifestyle by introducing healthier eating habits and cutting out junk food, she has managed to lose the weight and bounced back sexier than before.
